Demodex are microscopic mites that naturally live on human skin — but when they overpopulate the eyelids and eyelash follicles, they cause a condition called Demodex blepharitis. This is far more common than most people realize, affecting an estimated 45–65% of adults, and is one of the most underdiagnosed causes of chronic eye irritation, dry eye, and lid inflammation.

We examine eyelid margins under high magnification and can identify the telltale cylindrical dandruff (collarettes) at the base of lashes that are the hallmark sign of Demodex.
